The best AI clipping tools, picked by the job you need done

BY CARLOS GIL·PUBLISHED OCT 7, 2026·LAST UPDATED OCT 10, 2026EDITORIALLY REVIEWED

Disclosure: This page includes an affiliate link to Descript, which has a verified partner program, and BestCreates may earn a commission if you sign up. Every other tool link is direct and earns us nothing. Commission never affects which tool we recommend or where it ranks. How we make money.

Review status: Editorially reviewed. Researched from each vendor's official pricing pages, help centers and terms of service on October 7, 2026. We have not run a controlled clip-quality benchmark across these tools, so anything about how "good" a tool's clip picks are is labeled as the vendor's claim. How we review.

The short answer: If you publish a podcast or interview show and want clips posted for you, start with Opus Clip Pro or Vizard Creator, which cost the same ($29/month, or $14.50/month billed annually) but give you 300 and 600 upload minutes respectively. If you already record in Riverside, its Magic Clips are included and may be all you need. If your problem is captions on talking-head videos you shot yourself, look at Submagic on the web or Captions on iPhone. If you're sitting on hours of keynotes and want to search them before you cut, look at StarZero. And if you want one editor that transcribes, clips and finishes, DescriptAFFILIATE is our pick.

There's no single winner, because "AI clipping" covers four different jobs. The tool that finds twelve clips in a podcast isn't the one that makes a selfie video look designed. Pick the job first.

Once you have clips, the workflow in our guide to turning one video into a week of social content covers the approval and scheduling side.

How to choose: five questions before you pay

  1. How many minutes do you upload a month? Most clippers meter the length of the source video, not the clips you keep. A one-hour podcast costs 60 credits on Opus Clip and Vizard whether you keep two clips or twenty.
  2. Do credits expire? Opus Clip's and Vizard's monthly-plan credits expire after 60 days. Descript's media minutes don't roll over at all. Buying a bigger plan "just in case" is how creators overpay.
  3. Can you use the free plan for business work? Opus Clip's terms limit free use to personal, non-commercial use, and most free plans watermark exports. Treat free plans as trials.
  4. Where do clips need to go? Direct publishing ranges from none (Captions) to nine networks (Opus Clip Pro). If you already use a scheduler, this matters less.
  5. What happens to your footage? Several vendors' terms allow them to use uploads to improve or train their AI models, and the opt-out ranges from a settings change to "buy Enterprise". Your footage is an owned asset. Read the training clause before you upload anything under NDA.

Not in the table: Munch. Its old domain (getmunch.com) now redirects to Munch Studio, which sells itself as an AI social media manager rather than a clipping tool. Plans start at $48/month ($38 billed annually) with 500 minutes of video repurposing. If you were a Munch clipping customer, re-evaluate it as a different product.

Example: what a clip actually costs a weekly podcaster

Example (hypothetical, our assumptions): A creator uploads four 60-minute podcast episodes a month (240 minutes of source video). They keep 10 clips per episode, so 40 published clips a month. They post clips to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram. Prices are list prices on October 7, 2026, before tax. "Kept clips" is our assumption. No vendor guarantees a number of usable clips per upload.

Tool and planWhat the 240 minutes consumesFits?Monthly-billed cost per kept clipAnnual-billed cost per kept clip

Submagic Starter + Magic Clips ($19 + $19/mo)4 of 10 Magic Clips uploadsYes, if the add-on stacks on Starter as we read it$0.95Not published for the add-on
StarZero Starter ($30/mo)Vendor estimates 16 to 30 podcast clipsNo, for 40 clipsn/an/a (monthly only)
StarZero Pro ($100/mo)Vendor estimates 69 to 125 podcast clipsYes$2.50n/a (monthly only)

What the arithmetic shows:

  • Opus Clip's X fee can break the budget. Opus Clip charges 3 credits per clip per X account. Posting all 40 clips to one X account adds 120 credits, which takes you to 360 of 300. Post to X natively, or add a pack or a top-up.
  • Vizard gives twice the headroom at the same price. That leaves room for a fifth episode or a month of re-uploads.
  • StarZero costs more per clip because it does a different job. Judge it on the hours of footage you need to search, not on cost per clip.

What would change this: keep three clips per episode instead of ten and every tool costs roughly three times as much per clip. Upload 10 hours a month and you outgrow one Opus Clip Pro pack.

Podcast-to-shorts: Opus Clip, Vizard, Riverside

This is the job most people mean by "AI clipping": upload a long conversation, get back ranked short clips with captions and vertical framing, approve, post.

Opus Clip: the most complete publishing pipeline

BESTCREATES SCORE 8.0 / 10 · $$READ THE OPUS CLIP REVIEW →

Opus Clip Pro at $29/month ($14.50 billed annually) is the most complete version of this workflow on paper: AI clip selection with a virality score, ReframeAnything (labeled alpha), animated captions, B-roll, XML export to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and scheduling to nine networks including LinkedIn, Threads and Bluesky. Pro packs add 300 credits and 2 seats each, capped at 4 seats.

The limits are worth reading. Transcription covers 25 languages, but Opus Clip's own list marks only English, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese as out of beta. Monthly credits expire after 60 days. The free plan watermarks clips, keeps them exportable for only 3 days, and is non-commercial under the terms. Opus Clip's help center says individual users' data may be used to improve its models, and the only published opt-out is for EU/EEA users. Read our full Opus Clip review, or our Opus Clip alternatives if you've already outgrown it.

Pick it if you want clipping, captioning and scheduling in one tool and you post to more than three networks. Skip it if you need non-English captions you can rely on, or you want a clear training opt-out without an Enterprise contract.

Vizard: the same price with double the minutes

BESTCREATES SCORE 7.8 / 10 · $$READ THE VIZARD REVIEW →

Vizard Creator costs exactly what Opus Clip Pro costs ($29 monthly, $14.50 annually) and includes 600 credits a month instead of 300. Paid plans export up to 4K, transcription covers 40 languages, and subtitles translate into 128, according to Vizard's help center. It publishes to TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Instagram and Facebook Pages, with scheduling on paid plans. Business ($39 monthly, $19.50 annually) adds a shared workspace with seats at $5 to $10 per seat per month depending on billing.

The catch is Vizard's paperwork. Its terms (last updated 2022) include a machine-learning clause covering user content, while a 2024 help article says Vizard doesn't train on customer data. That is a contradiction to put to Vizard's support team in writing before you upload client footage.

Pick it if your bottleneck is upload minutes. Skip it if you need terms that have been updated in the last three years.

Riverside Magic Clips: free if you already record there

BESTCREATES SCORE 8.6 / 10 · $$READ THE RIVERSIDE REVIEW →

If you record in Riverside, Magic Clips are included on every plan and don't use AI credits. Riverside's help center says it typically generates two clips per five minutes of recording, 30 to 90 seconds each, and Pro lets you regenerate up to three sets per recording. Transcription is unlimited across 100+ languages, and Pro publishes to YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok.

Two caveats. Riverside no longer has a free plan (there's a 14-day trial that needs a card), and its pricing page shows two different monthly prices for Pro ($35 on the plan card, $29 in the FAQ; $24 billed annually either way). Its terms also allow Riverside to use your content and AI outputs to train its models, with no self-serve opt-out we could find.

Pick it if Riverside is already your recording studio. Skip it if you mostly clip videos recorded elsewhere. We couldn't confirm Magic Clips run on uploaded files.

Also consider: Klap ($14/month billed annually) for 100 clips a month, but confirm your export quota first (see the table).

Talking-head captions: Submagic and Captions

This job is different. You shot a one-to-three-minute video and want it to look like a creator made it: animated captions, zooms, B-roll, emojis. Long-to-short clipping is secondary.

Submagic: web-based, caption-first

BESTCREATES SCORE 7.8 / 10 · $READ THE SUBMAGIC REVIEW →

Submagic Starter is $19/month ($12 billed annually) for 15 videos a month at up to 2 minutes each. Pro ($39, or $23 annually) allows 5-minute videos and 2K export, and Business ($69, or $41 annually) allows 30-minute videos and 4K at 60fps. Long-video clipping is a separate Magic Clips add-on at $19/month for 10 uploads. Submagic's help center says each run returns 20+ clips with a virality score. It schedules to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Shorts. LinkedIn, Facebook and X are listed as "coming soon".

Submagic's terms say you retain all rights, and they contain no AI-training clause. That's the cleanest ownership language in this group. The trade-off is that the pricing page contradicts itself on seats and Pro export resolution, so confirm both before buying a team plan. See our Submagic review.

Captions (by Mirage): iPhone-first, credit-based

BESTCREATES SCORE 7.6 / 10 · $$READ THE CAPTIONS REVIEW →

The company behind Captions renamed itself Mirage in September 2025. The app is still called Captions, and the terms are now "Captions by Mirage". Max costs $24.99/month for 500 credits, and long-to-short Clips requires Max or higher. The vendor says those prices reflect iOS plans. You get 100+ caption templates, captions in 100+ languages, AI dubbing in 30+ languages and 4K export. Captions documents no direct publishing to social networks. You export to your device.

The terms say you own your inputs and outputs, but give Mirage a sublicensable licence to use them "to improve the Services, and to develop new services and products". Excluding your content from training is listed as an Enterprise feature. See our Captions review.

Choose between them on device: Submagic if you edit in a browser and want scheduling, Captions if your phone is your studio.

Long keynote archive: StarZero, with Descript as the budget route

BESTCREATES SCORE 8.4 / 10 · $$READ THE STARZERO REVIEW →

If you have 50 hours of keynotes, webinars or livestreams, the hard part isn't cutting. It's finding the twelve minutes worth cutting. Per-upload clippers process one file at a time and forget it.

StarZero is built around a searchable library: upload or link footage, search it by dialogue and on-screen visuals, and ask an agent to build cutdowns. Our StarZero review is the one hands-on review in this group. On October 7, 2026 its pricing page shows Starter at $30/month (about 300,000 credits and 100 hours of storage), Pro at $100/month (about 1,250,000 credits, 200 hours of storage) and a new Ultimate plan at $1,000/month. All billing is monthly, with yearly marked "coming soon". StarZero says Starter covers roughly 30 hours of ingest. Watermarked renders are unlimited, and watermark-free renders cost credits.

Read the terms closely: StarZero assigns you its rights in outputs "if any", trains on inputs and outputs by default, and lets you opt out by contacting the company. The opt-out only applies going forward.

The budget route: DescriptAFFILIATE Creator ($35/month, or $24 annually) includes 30 hours of media minutes, and transcript search across a project works for archive mining if you're willing to do the picking yourself. Opus Clip also accepts files up to 10 hours, but it treats each file as its own project.

All-in-one editor: Descript, CapCut, VEED, Kapwing

Some creators don't want a clipper. They want an editor that clips, then lets them fix the clip properly.

Descript: our pick for transcript-first creators

BESTCREATES SCORE 9.0 / 10 · $$READ THE DESCRIPT REVIEW →

DescriptAFFILIATE Hobbyist costs $24/month ($16 billed annually), with 600 media minutes and 400 AI credits per month, 1080p export and no watermark. Creator costs $35 ($24 annually), with 1,800 minutes, 4K and up to 3 seats. Create Clips (through the Underlord AI co-editor or on its own) returns 1 to 20 clips from 10 seconds to 5 minutes long, with optional topic guidance. You edit the clip by editing its transcript, which is the fastest way to fix an AI cut that starts half a sentence late. Descript publishes long-form video directly to YouTube and episodes to podcast hosts, but not Shorts, TikTok or Instagram, so pair it with a scheduler.

Two catches. Media minutes and credits don't roll over. Descript's terms let it train on your inputs and outputs unless you opt out, and the terms don't describe the opt-out mechanism. See our Descript review and Descript alternatives.

CapCut: the finisher, now with a paywall where it used to be free

BESTCREATES SCORE 8.4 / 10 · FreeREAD THE CAPCUT REVIEW →

CapCut restructured its memberships in March 2026. There's a mobile-only Standard tier, and Pro is now $19.99/month or $179.99/year in the US, according to a CapCut marketing page (capcut.com/pricing returned a 404). Auto captions are now Pro-only, along with commercial-use assets and cross-platform use. That changes the old "CapCut is free" advice. For US users, CapCut's terms (updated April 15, 2026) are now an agreement with TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, although app store listings still name ByteDance Pte. Ltd. as the seller. The licence you grant over your content remains broad and perpetual. See our CapCut review and CapCut alternatives.

VEED and Kapwing: browser editors with clip makers bolted on

BESTCREATES SCORE 7.8 / 10 · $READ THE VEED REVIEW →

VEED Creator costs $25/month ($12 annually) for 1080p and Clips. VEED's Clips feature accepts 1 minute to 3 hours of speech. Free exports are 720p and watermarked, and VEED's terms let it train on Free-tier content only. Kapwing Pro costs $24/month ($16 annually) per member for 4K, 1,000 credits and Repurpose Studio. Neither publishes per-clip credit costs for its clipping feature, and we couldn't confirm direct social posting for either.

Transcription: the step under every clip

Every tool above starts by transcribing. If you also need transcripts for show notes or blog posts, a dedicated tool can feed your clipper.

What AI clipping won't do

  • It won't fix a weak source. A clipper multiplies what's in the recording.
  • It strips context. A clip that starts mid-argument can change what a guest meant. A human watches every clip before it posts.
  • Virality scores are vendor claims. We've found no independent evidence that any tool's score predicts reach.
  • Non-English support is uneven. Check each vendor's language list for beta labels.
COMMON QUESTIONS
What is the best AI clipping tool in 2026?

It depends on the job. For podcast-to-shorts with publishing, Opus Clip Pro and Vizard Creator lead on features per dollar. For talking-head captions, Submagic (web) or Captions (iPhone). For searching a large archive, StarZero. For an editor that also clips, Descript.

Which AI clipper is cheapest per clip?

In our Example of four one-hour podcasts and 40 kept clips a month, Opus Clip Pro and Vizard Creator both work out to $0.36 per clip billed annually and $0.73 billed monthly. Vizard leaves twice the spare minutes. Your cost depends mostly on how many clips you keep per upload.

Do AI clipping tools add a watermark on the free plan?

Opus Clip, Vizard, Submagic, Descript, VEED and Kapwing watermark free exports. Captions says its free plan has no watermark but adds one if you use paid-only AI features.

Can I use free-plan clips commercially?

Not on Opus Clip, whose terms limit free use to personal, non-commercial use. Check each vendor's terms. Paid plans generally allow commercial use.

Which tools post directly to LinkedIn?

Opus Clip (Pro), Vizard, Klap and Riverside. Submagic lists LinkedIn as coming soon. Captions, Descript (for Shorts), VEED and Kapwing don't document direct LinkedIn posting.

Do these tools train AI on my videos?

Several can. Opus Clip, Riverside, Descript (unless you opt out), StarZero (unless you opt out) and Captions (outside Enterprise) all have terms or help pages allowing some use of content to improve or train models. Submagic's and Kapwing's terms contain no training clause. VEED trains only on Free-tier content.
