THE SHORT ANSWER

Record one focused video, pull out the three to five moments that make sense on their own, and turn each into a short clip, a still post and a caption. Assign one person to pick moments, one to produce, and one to approve. That gives a small team a week of posts without writing every one from scratch.

Most creator teams don't run out of ideas. They run out of time to turn ideas into posts. Repurposing fixes that: one recording becomes the raw material for the week, and the team's job shifts from inventing content to editing it.

This guide lays the workflow out as a team process with clear handoffs. Adobe Express is the production tool here because it handles clipping, resizing and on-brand layouts in one place. The decisions and review steps work the same in any editor.

IS THIS FOR YOU

Decision criteria.

USE IT WHEN
You already publish long-form video and your short-form channels are posted irregularly or not at all.
USE IT WHEN
Two or more people touch content and you need a repeatable handoff instead of one person doing everything.
SKIP IT WHEN
The source video is a single linear tutorial where no moment stands alone. Repurposing that produces fragments, not posts.
SKIP IT WHEN
Each platform needs truly different content for your audience. Repurposing saves time on format, not on strategy.
THE WORKFLOW

Step by step.

  1. STEP 01

    Pick moments, not minutes

Watch the full video once and mark timestamps where a single idea lands completely: a clear claim, a story with a point, a tip someone could act on. Aim for three to five. If a moment needs earlier context to make sense, leave it out.

  2. STEP 02

Write the brief before anyone edits

For each moment, note the hook (first line on screen), the one takeaway, and the target platforms. This is the producer's spec, and it keeps clips from turning into random cuts.

  3. STEP 03

    Cut and resize the clips

Trim each moment into a short clip in Adobe Express and resize it for the placements you post to, such as vertical for short-form feeds. Keep one master clip per moment so changes don't fork across versions.

  4. STEP 04

Make it work with the sound off

Add on-screen captions and a text hook to every clip. A lot of short-form viewing happens on mute, and a clip that only works with audio loses most of its reach before the first word.

  5. STEP 05

Turn each moment into a still, too

Pull a quote or the key takeaway into a branded graphic or carousel slide using your saved brand assets. Stills fill feeds where video underperforms and give you posts for days between clips.

  6. STEP 06

Draft captions per platform, then edit them by hand

AI caption help is fine for a first draft. Then the approver rewrites the opening line in the creator's voice and checks every claim against what was actually said in the video.

  7. STEP 07

    Approve, then schedule the week

The approver signs off on each asset, then the week goes into the calendar in one sitting. See our scheduling workflow for how to keep a human check in that step.

LIMITATIONS

What this won't do.

  • Repurposing multiplies what's in the source. A weak video becomes a week of weak posts, so the recording still matters most.
  • Clipped moments lose context. Check that no clip changes the meaning of what was said.
  • Platform features, aspect ratios and posting support change often. Check Adobe's current documentation instead of relying on any guide's snapshot.
  • This guide doesn't promise reach or engagement outcomes. Results depend on your audience, niche and consistency.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS
How many posts can one video realistically produce?
It depends on the video. A focused 10–20 minute talk often has three to five moments that stand alone. Each can become a clip and a still, so the total depends on how many genuinely self-contained ideas the video has, not on its length.
Do I need Adobe Express for this workflow?
No. The steps are tool-agnostic. Adobe Express is used here because it covers clipping, resizing and branded layouts in one editor, but any editor that does those jobs works.
