Opus Clip alternatives, sorted by why you're leaving

BY CARLOS GIL·PUBLISHED OCT 7, 2026·LAST UPDATED OCT 10, 2026EDITORIALLY REVIEWED

Disclosure: One link on this page (Descript) is an affiliate link with a verified partner program. All other links are direct and earn us nothing. Commission never affects the order or the verdicts. How we make money.

Review status: Editorially reviewed. Prices, limits and terms were checked on official vendor pages on October 7, 2026. We haven't run a controlled clip-quality test, so quality comparisons are labeled as vendor claims. How we review.

The short answer: If you're out of credits, move to Vizard. It costs the same as Opus Clip Pro ($29/month, or $14.50 billed annually) with 600 upload minutes instead of 300. If you record in Riverside, its Magic Clips are included in your plan. If you want an agent to search hours of footage rather than clip one file at a time, try StarZero. If your real problem is the edit after the clip, DescriptAFFILIATE lets you fix AI cuts by editing the transcript. And if your issue is captions on short videos rather than clipping long ones, Submagic has the cleanest ownership terms in this group.

Before you switch, know that Opus Clip got cheaper. Starter is now $15/month and Pro is $29/month ($14.50 billed annually), per its pricing page. If you're on an older or larger plan, check that you're not overpaying before you leave. Our updated Opus Clip review has the details, and our best AI clipping tools guide covers the whole category by job.

Why creators leave Opus Clip

From Opus Clip's own documentation, these are the pressure points.

Credits run out, and they expire. One credit is one minute of source video, whatever you keep. Pro includes 300 credits per pack, which is five one-hour episodes. Monthly credits expire after 60 days. Posting to X costs an extra 3 credits per clip per X account. You can't buy extra minutes on their own, only whole Pro packs or (newly) top-ups whose price per credit isn't published.

Clip picks don't fit the show. Opus Clip describes ClipAnything as multimodal clipping that weighs visual, audio and sentiment cues, plus a virality score. No independent evidence we've found shows that any clipper's score predicts reach. If the picks keep missing your best moments, the issue may be your format (slow-build interviews, panel shows, non-English episodes) rather than the tool. Opus Clip marks 20 of its 25 transcription languages as beta.

Pricing and seats don't scale cleanly. Starter is monthly-only. Pro tops out at 4 seats however many packs you buy. More than that means a custom Business contract.

The free plan is a trial, not a tier. Free clips carry an Opus Clip watermark, can only be exported for 3 days, and Opus Clip's terms restrict free use to personal, non-commercial use.

The terms. Opus Clip's help center says individual (non-Enterprise) users' data may be used to improve its models with personal information removed. Its privacy policy gives an email opt-out for EU/EEA users only. The terms also give Opus Clip a perpetual, irrevocable licence to your submissions to run the service, and note that complete deletion may not be possible.

Vizard: if you're out of credits

BESTCREATES SCORE 7.8 / 10 · $$READ THE VIZARD REVIEW →

What you gain: double the monthly upload minutes at the same price as Opus Clip Pro, 4K export on paid plans, 40 transcription languages and subtitle translation into 128 (per Vizard's help center). It posts to TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Instagram and Facebook Pages, with scheduling on paid plans. Vizard's API returns a 0 to 10 virality score with a written reason, and is included on Creator and Business at no extra cost. Business ($39 monthly, $19.50 annually) adds a shared workspace, with seats at $5 per month on yearly billing or $10 on monthly.

What you lose: Opus Clip's newer publishing targets (Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky), its XML export to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve (we found no equivalent documented for Vizard), and current paperwork. Vizard's terms were last updated in 2022 and include a machine-learning clause over user content, while its help center says it doesn't train on customer data. Ask Vizard to confirm in writing which one governs.

Switch if minutes are your only complaint.

Riverside Magic Clips: if you already record there

BESTCREATES SCORE 8.6 / 10 · $$READ THE RIVERSIDE REVIEW →

What you gain: clips from every recording at no extra cost. Riverside says Magic Clips don't use AI credits, generate about two clips per five minutes of recording, and can be regenerated up to three times per recording on Pro. You also get unlimited transcription in 100+ languages, 4K export, and publishing to YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok from Pro.

What you lose: a standalone clipper. We couldn't confirm that Magic Clips run on video recorded elsewhere. There's no free plan any more, and Riverside's pricing page shows Pro at $35 on the plan card and $29 in the FAQ ($24 billed annually either way), so check at checkout. Riverside's terms also allow it to train AI models on your content and outputs, with no self-serve opt-out we could find. See our Riverside review.

Switch if Riverside is your studio and you're paying for Opus Clip on top.

StarZero: if you have an archive, not an episode

BESTCREATES SCORE 8.4 / 10 · $$READ THE STARZERO REVIEW →

What you gain: a different model of the job. StarZero indexes a library you can search by dialogue and on-screen visuals, then an agent builds cutdowns, reframes and captions them. StarZero's team says its clip quality beats Opus Clip in its own testing and customer feedback. That's a vendor claim we haven't verified. Our StarZero review is a hands-on review of the workflow.

What you lose: price per clip and publishing. Starter is $30/month and StarZero estimates it covers roughly 16 to 30 podcast clips. Pro is $100/month for an estimated 69 to 125. Billing is monthly only, and we found no direct social publishing. StarZero trains on inputs and outputs by default. You can opt out by contacting the company, and the opt-out applies from then on. It assigns you its rights in outputs "if any".

Switch if you need to mine 20+ hours of keynotes or webinars. Stay if you clip one podcast a week.

Descript: if the AI cut is never quite right

BESTCREATES SCORE 9.0 / 10 · $$READ THE DESCRIPT REVIEW →

What you gain: an editor around the clip. Descript's Create Clips returns 1 to 20 clips of 10 seconds to 5 minutes, with optional topic guidance. When a clip starts half a sentence late, you fix it by editing the transcript instead of dragging handles. Hobbyist ($24 monthly, $16 annually) includes 600 media minutes and 1080p export. Creator ($35, or $24 annually) adds 4K, 1,800 minutes and up to 3 seats. You also get transcription in 25 languages and caption translation.

What you lose: the automation layer. Descript publishes long-form video to YouTube and episodes to podcast hosts, but not Shorts, TikTok or Instagram, so you'll need a scheduler. It has no virality score. Media minutes and AI credits don't roll over, and the AI-credit cost of a Create Clips run isn't documented. Descript's terms allow training on your inputs and outputs unless you opt out. See our Descript review.

Switch if you spend more time fixing Opus Clip's clips than you save generating them.

Submagic: if your videos are already short

BESTCREATES SCORE 7.8 / 10 · $READ THE SUBMAGIC REVIEW →

What you gain: a caption-first web editor with templates, B-roll and zooms, plus a Magic Clips add-on ($19/month for 10 uploads) that Submagic says returns 20+ clips per run with a virality score. Paid exports run 1080p (Starter), 2K (Pro) and 4K at 60fps (Business). It schedules to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Shorts. Submagic's terms say you retain all rights, and we found no AI-training clause in them.

What you lose: long-form headroom and some publishing targets. Starter caps each video at 2 minutes, Pro at 5 and Business at 30. LinkedIn, Facebook and X posting are listed as "coming soon". The pricing page contradicts itself on seats and Pro resolution. See our Submagic review.

Switch if most of your source videos are under five minutes, or terms matter more to you than minutes.

Klap: if you want fewer settings

BESTCREATES SCORE 7.0 / 10 · $$READ THE KLAP REVIEW →

What you gain: a simple flow with a lower annual price ($14/month billed annually for Basic), 100 clips a month, AI reframing with split-screen and gaming layouts, captions in 52 languages and posting to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn.

What you lose: predictability. Klap's monthly prices ($29 / $79 / $189 for Basic, Pro and the top tier) show on its pricing page when you switch the billing toggle, but its export specs and free-video watermark status are not stated, so check the limits before you commit. Its terms don't address content licences or AI training. Its privacy policy lists OpenAI, OpenRouter and Gemini among the processors.

Switch if you value simplicity over control and can confirm your quota before paying.

CapCut: if you'd rather do it by hand

BESTCREATES SCORE 8.4 / 10 · FreeREAD THE CAPCUT REVIEW →

What you gain: a full editor across phone, desktop and web, with export up to 8K according to CapCut. Pro is $19.99/month or $179.99/year in the US, per a CapCut marketing page. Read our CapCut vs Opus Clip comparison.

What you lose: automated clip finding at scale, and more than you might expect for free. After the March 2026 restructure, auto captions and commercial-use assets are Pro-only. US users now contract with TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, and CapCut's terms grant a perpetual, sublicensable licence to your content for "operating, developing and providing" the services.

Switch if you only make a few clips a week and enjoy editing them.

Should you switch at all?

Stay with Opus Clip if you post to more than five networks (it schedules to nine on Pro), you hand clips to an editor in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve (Pro exports XML), or you use its API, MCP server or Claude connector in an automated workflow. Those are real advantages none of the alternatives above fully match.

Switch if your complaint is one of the five above and the alternative's "what you lose" line doesn't hurt. Whatever you choose, export your clips and SRT files regularly. Opus Clip Starter projects expire after 29 days, and on Free you get 3 days.

COMMON QUESTIONS
What is the best Opus Clip alternative?

It depends on why you're leaving. Vizard for more minutes at the same price, Riverside if you record there, StarZero for archives, Descript for editing control, Submagic for short videos and cleaner terms.

Is there a free Opus Clip alternative without a watermark?

Not among the clippers we checked. Vizard, Submagic, Descript, VEED and Kapwing all watermark free exports. Captions has no watermark on its free plan, but adds one if you use paid-only AI features, and long-to-short Clips needs its Max plan.

Is Vizard cheaper than Opus Clip?

Same list price ($29 monthly, $14.50 annually), twice the upload minutes (600 vs 300). So it's cheaper per minute, not per month.

Which Opus Clip alternative has the best clip quality?

We haven't run a controlled test, and every vendor claims to be best. StarZero says its testing shows stronger clips than Opus Clip. Treat that as a claim. Run the same two episodes through your top two choices on their trials and compare.

Can I move my Opus Clip projects to another tool?

There's no project migration between clippers. Download your clips (and SRT files, or XML on Pro) before your credits or projects expire.
