★ THE REVIEW

SquadCast's pitch has always been unglamorous: your recording will survive. Audio uploads progressively while you record, so a guest whose laptop dies at minute fifty still hands you fifty minutes of clean local audio. In four sessions we never lost a track, including one deliberately brutal test on hotel wifi.

Since the Descript acquisition, SquadCast is best understood as the recording front end of a bigger editing workflow. That is good news if you already edit in Descript — record, and the multitrack session is waiting for you. It is less good if you wanted a cheap standalone recorder, because pricing now travels with Descript plans.

EDITOR'S NOTE
"Boring reliability is a feature. SquadCast sells it."

Video is the weak spot. You get serviceable 1080p, sometimes 4K, but Riverside's video pipeline and clip tooling are ahead. If your show is audio-first and you value never re-recording an interview, SquadCast is still the safest button to press.
