Captivate is for podcasters who already know they're staying and want to grow. Every plan includes unlimited shows, IAB-certified stats (Captivate's claim), dynamic ad insertion and a podcast website. There's no free plan and no editor, so you pay from episode one and produce somewhere else.

What it does well
- Every feature on every plan. Captivate's pricing page says all plans include unlimited podcasts and storage, dynamic content insertion with AMIE, private podcasting, a player, a Captivate Sites website and network features. Plans differ only by monthly downloads.
- Stats you can hand a sponsor. Captivate describes its analytics as advanced and IAB certified. Downloads by episode, platform and geography are the views a sponsor asks for first.
- Ads across the back catalogue. Dynamic insertion lets you swap a pre-roll across older episodes in one pass, which is the difference between selling one ad and selling a campaign.
- Money from listeners, not just ads. Private member podcasts and Memberships & Tipping let you charge your audience directly instead of relying only on ad networks.
- Help moving in. Captivate's import guide describes a free import, plus an optional CSV import of old download stats (marked as non-IAB).
Where it falls short
- No free plan. There's a 30-day free trial, then $17 to $19 a month at minimum.
- No recording or editing. Record in Riverside, Zencastr or a DAW, then publish here.
- Imports leave things behind. Captivate's own guide says transcripts and chapters are not imported, so plan to re-upload them after a move, and turn off dynamic ads at your old host first.
- Templates over brand. Captivate Sites is quick to set up, but if your visual identity matters you'll outgrow the templates.
- Not a video host. Captivate's pricing page lists no native video hosting, so a video-first show needs YouTube or another platform alongside it.

Above 300,000 downloads a month, Captivate quotes custom plans. Because features don't change between tiers, the only question is how many downloads you get, and most independent shows will sit on Personal for a long time.
Example: a weekly show averaging 3,000 downloads a month uses a tenth of the Personal cap and pays $204 a year billed annually, or $228 billed monthly. A small network of three shows totaling 40,000 monthly downloads moves to Professional at $528 a year billed annually.
Who should pick it (and who shouldn't)
Pick Captivate if you run more than one show, plan to sell sponsorships or memberships, or want a podcast website without a separate builder. It's also a sensible home for agencies and producers managing client shows under one login.
Skip it if you're testing an idea and want a free start (Buzzsprout or Zencastr), if you want recording and editing in the same app, or if video is central to the show.
