★ THE REVIEW

Zencastr is the value pick. It records each participant locally, uploads in the background, and hands you separate tracks — the same core promise as the pricier recorders — then keeps going into hosting, transcripts, and ad marketplace features you would otherwise buy separately.

The trade-off is polish. Long video sessions are where we saw the most friction: a drifted track on one two-hour recording, and an export queue that took its time. Audio-only, it behaved. For a show under an hour with one or two guests, the free and cheap tiers are hard to argue with.

EDITOR'S NOTE
"Everything a new podcast needs, for less than everyone else charges for one piece."

Think of Zencastr as the whole podcast stack at a beginner price. If your show grows into video, you will likely graduate to Riverside; if it stays audio, you may never need to.
