What it does well
- Local recording for up to six people. Each participant is recorded on their own device, with progressive uploading and automatic cloud backups, and you get separate tracks. That's the same core promise as the pricier recorders.
- Quality on a $0 plan. Zencastr's pricing page lists 4K video, 48kHz WAV audio and unlimited track storage on the free Vibecastr plan.
- A whole podcast stack. Zencastr lists text-based and multi-track editing, unlimited transcription in 10 languages, chapter and title generation, filler-word and long-pause removal, background-noise removal and animated captions. Production credits are unlimited "for a limited time."
- Hosting and distribution included. Unlimited audio and video hosting for up to five shows, distribution to the major podcast apps, social publishing and scheduling, 1080p livestreaming and ad campaign analytics.
- Room for a small team. Four seats with roles and permissions, which few free plans offer.
Where it falls short
- The model is new. In August 2026 Zencastr folded its paid tiers into the free Vibecastr plan plus custom Enterprise deals. A plan this generous can change again, so keep your own copies of your tracks.
- The AI-training offer. Zencastr says it will pay podcasters for helping train its AI Producer, for example by correcting transcripts. Read the terms before you opt in if you care how your recordings are used.
- Post-production is basic. The tools handle cleanup and clips. Complex edits still belong in a dedicated editor.
- Support. Short of an Enterprise contract, there's no paid tier that buys a faster lane, so factor that in if your show runs on deadlines.
- Mobile is iOS only. Zencastr lists web and iOS apps; we found no Android app.
Pricing in practice
Vibecastr is $0. Enterprise is custom-priced, for teams that need more participants, seats or contract terms. The free-plan limits that matter: 6 participants, 5 shows, 4 seats and 1080p livestreaming. Production credits are unlimited only for a limited time, and Zencastr hasn't said what replaces them.
Example: a weekly show with two hosts and one remote guest can record, edit, transcribe, host and publish for $0 a month on Zencastr. The same workflow on Riverside Pro ($24 a month billed annually, hosting included) costs $288 a year. The question is whether Riverside's editing and clipping are worth that to you.
Who should pick it (and who shouldn't)
Pick Zencastr if you're starting a show on no budget, run up to five shows, or want recording and hosting behind one login.
Skip it if you need a pricing model with a long, stable track record, fast support on demand, or an Android app.
