THE ROUNDUP

The best online course platforms for creators in 2026

BY CARLOS GIL · FOUNDER & EDITOR, THE BEST NETWORK · PUBLISHED OCT 13, 2026 · LAST UPDATED OCT 13, 2026

Disclosure: LearnWorlds and Teachable have verified affiliate programs, and their links on this page are affiliate links, labeled where they appear. The order below is our published review scores, and commission never changes it. How we make money.

The short answer: LearnWorlds is our top-rated platform for courses where the learning experience is the product, and Thinkific is the best value pure course platform. If the community is what people pay for, look at Circle, Skool or Mighty Networks. If you want one login for site, email and checkout, Kajabi or the cheaper Podia. Teachable is the fastest familiar way to launch, as long as you price in its Starter transaction fee.

Each card links to the full review. Prices were checked on each vendor's pricing page between October 7 and 10, 2026.

1

LearnWorlds

On the evidence available, LearnWorlds offers the most polished student experience in the course-platform category, and it is the only one whose interactive video and assessment tools meaningfully change how a course teaches. The trade-offs are a longer build and a transaction fee on the entry plan.

Pick LearnWorldsAFFILIATE when the course itself has to be the selling point. Its interactive video and assessment tools change how a lesson teaches, and its site builder produces pages that look designed rather than templated. The trade-offs are a longer build than simpler course platforms, and an entry plan that is too limited for most serious sellers.

2

Thinkific

The course platform that stays out of your way once the course is built.

Thinkific is a strong pick when the course is the product: a clean builder, a good student experience and, on Thinkific Payments, processing priced like Stripe's. Read the plan grid closely, though. Memberships, subscriptions, payment plans and certificates start on Start ($82 a month billed annually), and processing through your own Stripe account costs extra on every plan below Plus.

3

Circle

The best community platform for creators who want their own domain and their own Stripe account, as long as you budget for stacked fees and add-ons.

Circle is the community platform to pick if you want paying members on your own domain and billed through your own Stripe account. That control has a price. Circle's own transaction fee (2% on Professional) sits on top of Stripe's processing and Stripe Billing fees, and several limits you'll hit as you grow are paid add-ons. Here's our read of Circle's pricing page and help center, checked October 10, 2026.

4

Kajabi

The all-in-one for creators who treat their content like a school.

Kajabi is what you graduate to when you have a real course or coaching business and you're tired of stitching together a site, email tool, checkout and community. It's priced that way on purpose: $143 a month billed annually at the bottom, and no free plan. If you're selling a $19 PDF, it's the wrong tool. If you're running a $2,000 cohort, the math works.

5

Podia

A fair-priced all-in-one for courses, downloads and community, but skip Mover once you sell, and know that canceling Podia cancels your subscriptions.

Podia is the most reasonable all-in-one for a solo creator who sells courses, downloads and a community and doesn't want Kajabi's price. Two things to know before you sign up: the entry plan's 5% fee stops making sense quickly, and canceling your Podia plan cancels every recurring subscription you've sold. Here's our read of Podia's pricing page and help center, checked October 10, 2026.

Mighty Networks

A strong community-plus-courses platform with your own Stripe account, but moving paying members in or out is manual, and iOS sales lose 15% to Apple.

Mighty Networks is a solid home for a membership built around courses, cohorts and events, and it pays you through your own Stripe account. The catches are about money flow and moving house: payments are Stripe-only, iOS purchases lose 15% to Apple, and paying members can't be transferred in or out on a self-serve basis. Here's our read of Mighty's pricing page and help docs, checked October 10, 2026.

7

Skool

The simplest way to run a paid community with a course attached, as long as you accept that Skool, not you, owns the payment relationship.

Skool is a community-first platform: a discussion feed, a "Classroom" for courses, a calendar with native video calls, and a points-and-levels system that rewards members for participating. It has two plans. Hobby costs $9 a month and takes 10% + $0.30 of every sale. Pro costs $99 a month and takes 2.9% + $0.30 (3.9% + $0.30 on charges above $900). Both include unlimited members, courses, videos and live calls, according to Skool's pricing page.

$ · Coaches, educators and expert-led creators who want one place for discussion, a course library and live calls, and who care more about member engagement than about branding or a custom tech stack.

Teachable

A reliable, unglamorous course platform that gets out of the way and lets you sell.

Teachable is a dependable choice for structured, self-paced courses and a small digital-product catalog, once you sell enough to justify the Builder plan. Its biggest change this year is payments: the new Teachable Payments gateway handles tax and runs a Stripe-built checkout, but its bundles add per-transaction fees you should read before you set prices.

How to choose a course platform

  1. Is the product the course or the community? Course-first platforms (LearnWorlds, Thinkific, Teachable) do lessons, quizzes and certificates well. Community-first platforms (Circle, Skool, Mighty Networks) are built for daily discussion, events and calls, with courses alongside.
  2. Who takes a cut of each sale? Several entry plans charge a platform fee on top of card processing: Teachable Starter 7.5%, Podia Mover 5%, Skool Hobby 10% + $0.30, Circle Professional 2%, Mighty Networks Launch 2%, and LearnWorlds Starter $5 per paid enrollment. The cheapest sticker price is often the most expensive plan once you sell.
  3. Do you already have an email tool? Kajabi and Podia include email; most others expect you to bring Kit, MailerLite or beehiiv.
  4. Can you leave later? Check whether payments run on your own Stripe account. Platforms that act as the merchant (Skool, for example) make moving paying members harder.

When to pick which

  • Premium courses, assessments or SCORM: LearnWorlds.
  • The most course for the money: Thinkific.
  • A community people pay to join: Circle on your own domain, Skool for simplicity, Mighty Networks if you want branded apps later.
  • One login for everything, with email: Kajabi, or Podia at a lower price.
  • Launching this week: Teachable, then move to Builder once the 7.5% fee costs more than the upgrade.
