On Apple Silicon it flies. Background rendering means the timeline rarely drops frames even with mixed ProRes and H.265 footage, and export times on an M-series MacBook are noticeably faster than Premiere doing the same job on comparable hardware.
The catch is the walled garden. There's no Windows version, collaboration features lag behind Premiere Productions or Resolve's multi-user projects, and finding a plugin for a specific transition or title style means a smaller marketplace to search. If your studio has mixed OS editors, Final Cut becomes the odd one out.
For a solo or small-team Mac shop cranking out YouTube episodes weekly, though, the one-time $299 fee pays for itself within a couple of months versus a Premiere subscription, and the speed gains are not subtle.
