Why creators leave Loom.

The free plan is the usual trigger: video length caps and a limited library mean the first serious month of use pushes you onto a per-seat paid plan, and per-seat pricing scales badly across a team where most people record twice a month.

The second reason is editing. Loom is a recorder with trimming attached — if a take goes wrong, you re-record. Anyone producing polished walkthroughs, course lessons or client deliverables ends up exporting into another tool anyway, at which point Loom is just a capture button with a subscription.

Should you actually switch?

For pure internal async updates — "here's what I changed, watch this two minutes" — Loom is still the lowest-friction option and switching is a downgrade. Its whole value is that recording and sharing take one click and nobody has to think about editing.

Switch when the videos leave the building. The moment recordings become onboarding content, course lessons, sales demos or anything a customer sees, you need editing, captions and brand control, and you'll get all three from Descript or VEED for around the same money. A lot of teams keep Loom for internal notes and add one of these for published work, which is a smaller change than a full migration.

What is the best free Loom alternative?
Descript's free tier gives you screen recording plus real transcript-based editing with a limited number of hours per month, which is more capability than Loom's free plan even if the hours are tighter. Browser options like VEED and Kapwing are free but watermark exports.
Which Loom alternative lets me edit out mistakes?
Descript. Because the edit surface is the transcript, removing a wrong sentence or every filler word takes seconds and the video follows. VEED and Kapwing offer conventional timeline trimming, which is fine for topping and tailing but slow for cleaning up speech.
Do I need to review Loom itself before choosing?
